School Satisfaction Survey
Thank you to those families who have taken the time to complete the families school satisfaction survey. Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve. We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Forest Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making. The survey is open from Monday 26 August 2024 until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete. Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren). Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/wYdpFE87hx The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential. All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff. Please contact your school if you require any assistance.

Our Adventure with Possum Magic
Our kindergarten students have embarked on an enchanting reading adventure, beginning during Book Week with the beloved story ‘Possum Magic’ by Mem Fox. This tale of Hush the possum and her magical journey across Australia has captured the imaginations of our little learners, and we've been revisiting the story each week, creating our own magical journey alongside Hush. As we follow Hush's travels around Australia, we stop at each location she visits, find it on the map, and explore the foods she tries in her quest to become visible again. From Anzac biscuits in Adelaide to mornay and minties in Melbourne, our students have been excited to cook, taste, and learn about these iconic Australian treats. Along the way, we are not only enjoying the magic of reading but also deepening our understanding of retelling stories, making personal connections, and discovering the geography of our beautiful country. Each week, our students are role playing, flying in an aeroplane to our next destination, learning more about different parts of Australia and gaining a greater appreciation of where we live. This journey with Hush has been a wonderful way to ignite a love for reading and learning in our classroom, and we look forward to many more magical moments in the weeks to come. I wonder where we will go next, and what foods might we sample?

This term, Grades 5 and 6 students have been focusing on Japanese writing. Understanding Japanese writing helps them to pronounce Japanese characters correctly. Grade 5 and 6 students can now speak Japanese with good pronunciation. These skills will assist students to communicate well when they have another online exchange lesson with a Japanese School later on this year. Students have learnt how to say different objects in the classroom and how to give and receive the objects in Japanese. This week, we did role play to show their understanding. All students did excellent work this week! Oops! I forgot to take pictures, so this is the alternative picture to get your attention. We made these decorations when I read the book called “Mr. Schmoe came to Hiroshima” to the class. The paper cranes represent our wishes for peace.
Grades 3 and 4 students are also focusing on Japanese writing. They are making a personalised bookmark with the condition that they draw some Japanese traditional patterns on their bookmark. Actually, students see Japanese traditional patterns in their everyday life, but they never realised this until they have learnt this unit. Each pattern has meaning, and it was interesting to guess what the meaning of the pattern was. This is Josie’s work, she put a great effort in to drawing these patterns. Well done!
Prep, Grades 1 and 2 have been learning the names of colours in Japanese. Students’ favourite colours in Japanese are Ao (blue), Pinku (pink) and Orenji (orange). The students also played Lotto colours. Prep, Grades 1 and 2 also learnt how to write their name in Japanese. This picture is Leo’s work and he wrote his name in Japanese. It wasn’t easy to write, but all students tried to write their name in Japanese and did nice work!
Our Prep/1 class has been enthusiastically diving into the world of addition and subtraction! We’ve been exploring the symbols and discussing what we already know about them.
To solve problems, we’ve started unpacking various strategies such as using manipulatives, drawing pictures, and for our Year 1 students, counting on and back, and using number lines. As we continue to build these strategies, we’ll also look at how our knowledge of doubles and bonds to 10 can help us solve addition and subtraction problems more effectively.
Using a structured maths inquiry approach, we’ve been tackling different open-ended problems. This includes balancing collections to make them equal and adding up animal legs on Noah’s Ark, which has been both fun and educational. The Preps enjoyed joining with all the Year 1s to collaborate on our inquiries and work together to come up with solutions to our Noah’s Ark problem.
We’ve also been enjoying some exciting games with UNO cards and dice, such as “1 More or Less Snap,” “Flip and Add,” and “Roll and Add.” We have also been exploring some interactive online addition tools, using dice dots and tens frames to practice our skills. These activities not only make learning fun but also reinforce our math skills in an engaging way.
We’re excited to continue our addition and subtraction learning journey and can’t wait to see what problems we will solve next!
LIFT - Learning in Families Together
Today’s fun activity is Mirror Games! This activity helps your child develop social and self-help skills. We use these important skills everyday when we play and work with others, solve conflicts, take turns, understand feelings, and feel like we belong. How you can help at home. Play this game (and others like it) lots of times, it helps your child learn and practice these skills. #BrightLivesPositiveFutures |
