CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to all of our students who represented our school at the recent CHSSSA carnival. It was fantastic to see our students competing with good sportsmanship, having fun and trying their best! I wish all of our students who have been selected to represent Circular Head at the Northwest Carnival in Penguin all the very best and I look forward to accompanying the 3/4 team next Wednesday.
THANKYOU
A huge thankyou to each and everyone who attended our welcome back BBQ and meet the teacher classroom meetings. It was a wonderful opportunity for you to familiarise yourselves with the ‘way we do things’ at Forest Primary School.
COMMUNICATING WITH PARENTS
Parent Teacher communication has been happening this term. It has been lovely to see so many of you come into our school and engage in conversations regarding your child’s learning journey at school. Teaching staff have been and will be making phone calls to discuss how your child has settled into the new school year. This is a good opportunity to discuss any questions, concerns or positive feedback you may have to share with us. We are also in the process of updating students learning plans and asking for feedback.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Thankyou to our SRC and Ms Pop for leading our Relay for Life fundraiser and our Forest Primary Relay for life ceremony. Students will carry our ‘Forest” mascot as each class walks around the oval during their allocated walking time slots.
A special thankyou to Annette who has organised for our Spice Kids to perform the National Anthem and a number of songs at the relay for Life opening ceremony on Saturday. Thankyou to each of our students and families for supporting this event in our community.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN is coming up for students in Grade 3 and 5. This will take place from Wednesday 13th March to Monday 25th March.
SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 18th March 3pm at the school. All welcome.
WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
Please come along on Tuesday 9th of April at 1:30pm for our whole school assembly that will be held in our Multipurpose room. We encourage all of our Forest community to attend. Your child will be creating a personalised invitation – inviting you to come along.
BUS TRAVEL
Could you please speak to your children about ‘doing the right thing’ when travelling on the school buses. Wells Waggons have a behavioural expectation agreement that ALL students need to adhere to. We need to ensure that ALL of our students are safe on the bus and to ensure that the driver can be attentive to driving without distractions. If you have any bus concerns, can I please encourage you to come and speak with myself and Kimbra Wells at Wells Waggons.
Thank you,
Megan.
ICAS will return to Forest Primary School this year. The ICAS competition challenges your child, motivates them to succeed and provides you with an objective ranking of their academic performance. The tests are fully online and sitting dates will commence in Term 3. Learn more: icasassessments.com/icas
Grade 6 have had a very busy, focussed start to the year.
Ms C and Miss Pop have been very impressed with the way that every student has started the year, focussing on their learning and leadership.
This week we have had visitors in our class for both HASS and Science. This brings a “real face” to what we are learning.
Mr Krom spoke with us about his experiences of immigrating from Holland when he was a small child of eight years old. The students had prepared some amazing questions and listened and responded really well. They will now use these understandings to apply to their HASS work.
In Science, we had a visit from Nick who is an environmental scientist from Cradle Coast. He took us outside and we worked together to conduct some tests on the soil on our school farm. We found out that our soil is pretty good!. It was great to get our hands dirty as we were learning.
Nick also spoke to us about his job and the study pathways that he followed to get there.

This term in science we are investigating living things. To start our unit the students learnt the important scientific skill of questioning and had lots of interesting wonderings about all sorts of creatures. We have explored what makes something a living thing and what they need to survive. This week we started looking at the different features of living things beginning with humans and moving onto animals and insects. Our favourite lesson so far was using our scientific comparing to find the similarities and differences between a real earth worm and a gummy worm. We were all amazed to discover that worms have no eyes. Everyone enjoyed a hold of the wiggly worms after munching on their tasty gummy worm. As the term continues, we will compare and sort living things based on their physical features, look at the features of plants and explore why animals live in different habitats. The Preps and year ones have been very engaged in our investigation and I look forward to seeing what else we discover in the coming weeks.
From 2024 all our teachers will be undergoing training in how to teach reading based on the latest evidence.
This means that by 2026, no matter where your child goes to school, they will be taught to become confident readers in the same way. Read more on the DECYP website
What is the School Association Committee?
The School Association Committee (the Committee) is an elected group of School Association members that work together for the benefit of the school. Meetings are held once per term. The Committee manages and conducts the affairs of the School Association and performs administrative and decision-making as a group that represents the School Association.
Being a Committee Member is a commitment that is highly valued and recognised by the school. Being on the Committee is a rewarding role, where parents and community members’ skills and knowledge support the school. This contributes to helping learners succeed. Being part of the Committee also provides an opportunity to be actively involved and engaged in the school. The Committee is also a place of learning, contributing to developing experience and skills for all members. Anyone from the School Association can nominate to be on the Committee.
Why have a School Association?
Research shows that children do better at school when their parents are involved and engaged in their education. Parent and community engagement in school is important, as it:
• creates a collaborative culture within the school
• uses existing community strengths to benefit all learners
• creates collaborative teamwork between staff, parents and the community
• role models good citizenship to learners
• inspires and helps learners to succeed
• helps create better understanding between the local community and school
• fosters a good understanding of the value and benefits of education
• provides adult learning opportunities
• supports opportunities for creative thinking
• creates community support.
Being part of a School Association is one way of being engaged and involved in the school.
On Monday’s from 9-10 Forest Primary School will be offering a Motor Skills playgroup for 3-4 year olds.
This will be happening in our hall alongside our LiL program with Fran. Megan Hills and Rhiannon Thorp will be facilitating the program and look forward to seeing you all.
Thank you for taking part in our Yellow and Purple Day. We are all looking forward to our school relay on Friday. Thank you all for your kind donations.
