WELCOME JENNY BROOKS
Jenny has settled into her new role here at Forest Primary this week. We are very fortunate to have her join us in the AST role and use her expertise to especially support our Early Years teachers (K-2) and support us to refine our evidence of learning across our school.

Parent Teacher will be happening in week 10 of this term 26th – 29th of June. Timeslots became live yesterday for you to select.

In Prep we are learning about living things. We have learnt to sort living and non-living things and enjoyed finding living things in our playground. We had to learn the 4 rules that mean something is living. The Preps can now tell you that living things need energy from food, shelter/warmth, water, and fresh air to survive. With our Year 5/6 buddies we each planted a broad bean seed and are taking very good care of them as we watch them grow. Every few days we record how our seed has changed through pictures. Next week we will be making a clay pet and designing a home with all the things it needs to survive.
New online information hub for families
Some exciting news! The Department for Education, Children and Young People has recently launched a new online information hub for families with school-aged children in Tasmania. Our new website has information to help you navigate your child's education, from birth all the way up to 18 years of age.
Visit our new webpage at Welcome to your child's Tasmanian education - The Department for Education, Children and Young People Tasmania (decyp.tas.gov.au) (https://www.decyp.tas.gov.au/information-for-families-and-students)
Some of the things you’ll find include:
- tips on how to support your child’s learning at home
- information to help you keep your child safe and well
- a guide to explore courses for the career they want
- school holiday and term dates.
We hope this website will be a valuable tool for you as you help your child navigate their education journey. We would love to know what you think of our new information hub for families. You can tell us by completing a quick survey on the webpage.
What a busy but successful term 2 we have had so far.
This term we have had a big focus on developing a growth mindset and knowing and understanding that it is okay to make mistakes, as they help us to learn and grow! We use the acronym GRIT (Give it your all, Redo if necessary, Ignore giving up, Try your best!) to help us remember how we can work towards having a growth mindset.
Reading
During reading time we are working on the script Alice in Wonderland to work on our reading skills. Recently we have been working on reading with fluency and appropriate expression. We look forward to presenting a performance of this later in the year.
Writing
In writing time, we have been working on our persuasive texts, students are thoroughly enjoying writing some very strong persuasive pieces to present to Mrs Hills. Some of the topics we have so far are new school beanies, a yes day, and an elective day at the end of every term.
Numeracy
We have been enjoying open-ended inquiry-based maths tasks. These tasks challenge us to use our growth mindset. We are currently looking at solving problems involving multiplication and learning how to select efficient calculation strategies.
Science
In science we have been focusing on States of Matter (Solids, liquids and gases). We have been enjoying participating in many experiments exploring how matter changes.

The cooler months bring colds, the flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses. Being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family.
Prepare
Children are most likely to catch and spread the flu. Make sure your child has received their annual flu vaccine. This will boost their immunity against most likely circulating flu strains. It will also help stop them getting very sick.
Plan
If your child is at higher risk of becoming very sick from the flu, COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses, make a plan with your healthcare provider for when your child becomes sick.
Protect
Protect others by keeping your child home if they’re unwell, encouraging regular hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes.
For more information, read the attached parent and carer factsheet or visit the Department of Health website.
Thanks for doing your part to keep our school community safe, healthy and learning.
